Innovation Project #3 - Communicating Student Learning Through The Use Of E-Portfolios
Our third team of innovative and collaborative teachers have been exploring the use of e-portfolios to communicate their thinking and demonstrate their learning.
1) Communicating Student Learning Through the use of e-portfolios
Inquiry Focus
As part of the development of our school story, our scanning Spirals of Inquiry questions revealed a need for our students to be able to reflect upon themselves as learners more deeply and thoughtfully and to be able to voice and/or communicate to others their thinking and learning more descriptively creatively and expressively.
What inquiry question(s) do we have?
1) How can we improve our students’ abilities to reflect upon their learning and themselves as learners through the use of e-portfolios?
2) How can we improve our students’ abilities to communicate their thinking and learning more effectively through the use of e-portfolios?
3) How can we develop the necessary skills within our students to create and post their learning on e-portfolios to encourage positive three-way communication and assessment about their own learning (student, home and teachers)?
Inquiry Actions and Reflections
What actions will you take to enhance student learning and professional learning?
Teach students the skills necessary to post their learning on e-portfolios and gather feedback from others through the use of e-portfolios.
Develop metacognitive and reflective thinking within our students as well as common language and understandings to allow students to effectively assess and communicate their thinking and learning through the use of e-portfolios and to share their learning with parents, teachers and others within the learning community.
How will you know if you are making a difference for student learning?
We hope to see the development of expressive self-reflection, student voice and communication skills as students develop learning portfolios on-line:
