We Have Experts All Around Us

Teachers are an amazing resource. For the January 26 Professional Development Day, intermediate teachers from Bridge, Lee and some math teachers from McRoberts got together to share and learn from each other. They discussed ‘How do we set students up for success in numeracy?’ They looked deeper into the continuum of computational fluency from Grades 5 to 9. Kody Shum the Educational Facilitator of the Mathematics Department at McRoberts presented strategies and routines he uses in for his classes. The elementary teachers where able to see that there are many similarities. Over the course of the morning, knowledge was shared, and relationships were built. The pictures show the focuses and goals of the session, the strengths, stretches and wishes identified by the different teachers and a definition of computational fluency.

Next steps: Continuing the conversation and planning professional development days that align with all schools in our family of schools. We hope that next year Whiteside will be able to join us.
